Another busy week for the camels!
Sunday was Mother's Day! We worked hard on making lovely mother's day cards by first cutting and sticking our flower pots, then doing handprints as the flower stems, then cutting carefully around pictures of our faces and sticking them on the flower stems, and finally finger painting some flower petals around our faces. Inside we stuck an Arabic message to our mums. We loved talking about why we love our mums and what they help us do. We talk about all the nice things we were going to do for our mums that day. A common theme amongst all the camels was that we all love our mums very much!

In PE, we continued our ball handling skills by practicing throwing and catching in line partners. We practiced catching by standing with our arms outstretched ready to catch the ball into our tummies. We practiced throwing by making sure the other camel is ready to catch and throwing it into their hands. We then had a cool down with some yoga stretches and breathing exercises.
Monday was our sponsored walk of course! What an active morning! e thank you to all that parents who came to support and walk/run with the camels! We counted how many stamps we go and were so excited to tell each other the number of stamps we received. Please hand donations (to me directly) on Sunday.
This week we have been doing quite a bit of number work! We used the numicon at circle time to match quantity and numeral. We counted the holes in the numicon and tried to make the same number using other pieces of numicon. Some of us even put our fingers into the holes and got a friend to make the same number by putting other smaller amounts of numicon onto our fingers!
During free flow, we played a game of recognizing numbers using the numbered shells. We then tried to put the same amount of seashells to match the number. We did the same exercise in another way by tracing the numbered shells and sticking the correct amount of dots on our tracing paper. We love using the sticky dots for our number work! We also compared 2 groups of amounts by saying which had more and less.

Our book of the week was The snail and the whale which we were pleased to discover was written by the same author as the gruffalo, Julia Donaldson! We read the book a few times this week and we all agreed it was a lovely book indeed! There are a lot of words that rhyme which some of us could point out a bit more easily after doing our rhyme line work last week. It's great to see we are becoming more aware of rhyming words!
As a follow up activity to the book, we did some lovely painting to decorate our whales. We really enjoyed using the water colour paint palettes. We then cut out our whales. We made tiny little snails to go on the tales of our whales by rolling strips of paper using a pencil. it was a bit tricky but a great fine motor exercise. We glued teeny tiny little googly eyes on our snails.

We ended the week with a bit of fun facts! We talked about how facts are things that are true. At circle time we started with our lovely sing-along sea turtle video which has lots of facts in a fun song. After the video, lots of us could remember facts about sea turtles. We then watched a beautifully clear video about all sorts of sea creatures. It inspired us to draw and research our own facts about sea creatures. During free flow we thought of a sea creature we wanted to talk about or know more about and tried to draw it either free hand or by looking at a picture on the ipad. We then talked about what facts we knew about it and asked "Mr.Google" if we wanted to know anything else. We used crayon to draw and washed over our pictures with different shades of blue water colour. Hussein and Haboudy found out a shark's skin is rough like sandpaper and I provided the boys with some actual sandpaper to feel, cut up , and stick on their sharks!
We also made some Facts Hats! our Facts Hats will help us learn fun facts about sea creatures and the ocean and we will continue to use them even next term in our new topic!

Gem of the week went to Saisha! Saisha has settled back into class extremely well after being away for a while. She has done some good work in lots of different activities. Well done.
